Social / Short-form thinking
X.
Small observations from building things and trying to understand them.
Field notesA short note can be a useful unit of thought: one question, one observation, one result, or one decision that deserves a little daylight. Software, mathematics, learning, and product work provide plenty of material.
The strongest building note connects a concrete change to its consequence. What was confusing? What changed? What evidence suggests that the new version works? Even a small experiment becomes more useful when someone else can follow the reasoning.
Research notes need the same care. A finite test, a working prototype, and a general theorem answer different questions. Keeping the scope visible makes an unfinished idea easier to discuss and improve.
What belongs here
A question worth keeping
Write the uncertainty precisely enough that another person could suggest an experiment.
A small piece of evidence
Share the observation and the conditions that produced it, including a limitation that changes its meaning.
A decision explained
Record the tradeoff behind a design or engineering choice while the reasoning is still fresh.
